Aspyr Mac FAQs: Borderlands 2

Posted by JMatula

Borderlands 2 Mac

As you’ve all heard by now, Borderlands 2 arrived on the Mac November 20.  This incredible sequel contains tons of loot and great content, but there are probably still some questions you have about the game before you’re willing to return to Pandora.  That’s where GameAgent comes in!  We got all the gritty details from Aspyr Media to come up with the FAQ below.

Borderlands 2, Steam Version

Q: When/where will Borderlands 2 be available for the Mac?

A: Borderlands 2 for the Mac will be available on November 20 is now available! Mac users are encouraged to first visit the Borderlands 2 GameAgent page to get full game info and ensure they meet the minimum requirements by using GameAgent’s Mac Match feature.  Borderlands 2 may be purchased from the GameAgent Store, the Steam Store, Amazon.com, and other participating digital retailers. Unless purchased from the Mac App Store, all users will receive the Steam version of Borderlands 2 no matter where they purchase the game.

Q: Does Borderlands 2 for the Mac feature Steam Play?

A: Yes! Borderlands 2 for Mac is a full-featured Steam Play title.  Steam Play allows you to purchase your games once and play anywhere. Whether you have puchased your Steam Play enabled game on a Mac or PC, you will be able to play on the other platform free of charge. See https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9439-QHKN-1308 for more information on how Steam Play works.

Q: So this Steam Play feature means if I already bought it on the PC I can download it for my Mac for free?

A: Yes!

Q: Will any of the Borderlands 2 DLC content be available at launch for the Mac?

A: Yes! Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Bootyand the Mecromancer Packwill be available at launch for the Mac (users that pre-ordered Borderlands 2 from GameAgent  received the Mechromancer Pack free!).  Just like the base game, all DLC will feature Steam Play support.  Aspyr will also be supporting future DLC content as it becomes available.

Update #2: Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt plus new downloadable character heads and skins are now available on the Mac!

Q: Can I play Borderlands 2 for Mac with a controller?

A: Yes!   The wired Xbox 360 controller by Microsoft is supported.

Q: Will Mac players be able to play with PC players in multiplayer co-op?

A:  Yes!  Although in some cases when the PC updates content, the Mac version will be out of sync with the PC for a time.  Aspyr is dedicated to minimizing any downtime between the Mac and PC versions.  It’s important to note that during this time where the Mac version is catching up, Mac users will still be able to play with Mac users.

Update: (5/7/13) The Mac version on Steam just received the latest update, v1.5.0, bringing it back in sync with the PC and re-enabling cross-platform multiplayer.

Q: Will I be able to sync my game saves between the PC and Mac version?

A: Yes, but with a caveat: characters and saved games will NOT sync between PC and Mac via Steam Cloud.  Since the Mac and PC versions will likely be in an out of sync frequently, syncing game saves across platforms via Steam Cloud has been disabled.  This will ensure saved game data will not be lost or corrupt due to incompatible in-game content or other unforeseen reasons.  Users do have the option of transferring game saves via physical media (like a thumb drive) if they wish.

No news for GTX 285? It’s still the fastest option for a GeForce card on a MacPro.

  • http://twitter.com/Dinepada Dinepada

if i play it on a macbook pro 13″ 2010 at native resolution (1280×800) with the nvidia 320m, in what quality of graphics i will play at least 30 fps?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

It’s recommended you play at default settings to get the best experience.

  • Janichsan

I have in fact a few more questions: Will there be a disc version? If so, can that be preordered, too? I suppose in that case it would not contain the Mecromancer Pack?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

There will be a disc version out later this year, but it’s not currently available to pre-order. You’re correct that it won’t contain the Mechromancer Pack; you’ll have to purchase that DLC separately if you opt for the disc.

      • Janichsan

Hm… okay. I’m considering waiting for the inevitable GotYE or Complete Edition or whatever it will be called anyway.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Hawe2003 Dennis Weidner

I bought the game for windows and play it under bootcamp. I can continue to play with this license on my mac?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

You’ll need to download the Mac version through Steam once it’s released on Nov 20.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

What time will it be released on Nov 20th?

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Borderlands 2 for Mac should go live around 12pm CST on Nov 20.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

I see in my account I click on “Install” then I wait for download then I click “Play Now” and says can’t launch cause No Executable

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

So if I already own the PC version on Steam I can now play on my MacBook Pro without having to rebuy the game?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Well, technically you’ll have to wait until Nov 20 when the game is released for Mac, but yes, you’re correct in that you won’t have to re-purchase the game.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

How come Call of Duty: Black Ops isnt a SteamPlay Game I have it on PC but in order to get it on Mac have to pay another $49.99… This should also be a steamplay title.

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Sorry, the most I can say is that it’s just a different game with separate licensing and technical considerations.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

We gonna be able to pre-load/pre-download to our Macs before the launch on the 20th?

          • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

No pre-loads since it’s a Steam Play title.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AlphaLackey Charles Raymond Mousseau

I preordered the PC version, of which the Mechromancer was a pre-order reward; does that mean that I will also get the Mechromancer for the Mac version once it is available?

PS Thanks muchly for Mac support!

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes; all Borderlands 2 DLC, including the Mechromancer Pack and Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, are Steam Play-supported, meaning once you have them, you can play them on either platform.

      • Andy

Does that include the “Season Pass” for Borderlands 2 through steam that includes are 4 DLC packs (3 currently open and 1 remaining for the future)? Meaning, will the season pass purchased through steam let me play all 4 DLC packs (3 now and 1 later)? Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, purchasing the Season Pass will get you the 4 DLC packs as they become available on Mac. As of right now, that’s only Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty; the Torgue DLC will be available in the next several weeks. The other two DLC packs are still unannounced. (Mechromancer Pack is not included in the Season Pass.)

  • nobodieshero

You guys just rocked my world.. ;)

  • Dan

I have a Question. I have borderlands 2 for bootcamp on my mac, and I am wondering, when this releases for mac, will I be able to install borderlands 2 for free on my mac on steam? And will all my saves be on the mac version once I install it?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, since it is a Steam Play title, if you have purchased it on PC, you will be able to get it on the Mac for free. Your saved games won’t transfer at launch, though, since the PC and Mac versions will be out of sync initially.

  • ikir

Will be a Mac App Store versions released on the 20th? If yes, will it support multiplayer with steam friends?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

No, only the Steam version of Borderlands 2 will be released on the 20th. A Mac App version will be arriving later this year, likely in December. There will be more info on the Mac App version in coming weeks, though I can confirm the Mac App version will not play with the Steam version.

  • ikir

Why no support for cross multiplayer as in BlackOps? It would be awesome to have both players from Steam and Mac App Store? Many games do that as for example as I’ve said your BackOps, Trine and others. Also I would love to have the Mac App Store versions with all languages not only English as ofer Aspyr do…

    • mitchell271

If they ever get around to updating the game then we’ll be able to play with the PC players. A better question would be, “Do I want to play with the ‘Master PC Gaming Race’ that are so incredibly close-minded to anyone/anything that isn’t on a PC?”

      • http://www.androidmarket.cz/ Petr Houška

Yeah all PC players are elitist and evil.
        //No, not really.

That is dangerously close to sounding like a Godwinism…

I am a huge pc gamer and I have a macbook pro for school purpose I mean we are not as evil as you may thing sure we are pretty rich and we like our expensive computers and expensive fancy gaming mouses and keyboards and mouse pads and we also don’t like consoles and we make fun of them but hey atleast you are not playing on a console and you want to game on a computer so good for you

  • Beau

I feel sorry for you Russ, You’re going to have to answer one of the most common question people will ask that is not up there regarding previous bought versions.

Good Job Aspyr Media! You guys saved me from bordom on my family holiday this Christmas. I’m heavily in your debt.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Ha, appreciate the empathy. Don’t really mind answering the questions, though; I mean, it’s FREAKING BORDERLANDS 2. So excited.

  • Jonson

This was wonderful to see. Nice and straight-forward. Makes me wonder about getting a PC for my next computer.

Why is there no PS3 controller support? Borderlands 2 was released for consoles and PC? As was Borderlands 1 which had multiple controller support.

Feral is able to add multiple controller support to all their releases.

  • Beat Assault

When I tried to use the Pre-Order button on the Game agent site, it brought me back to the main page. How do you pre-order it, by buying the current PC version?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

No, the Mac version has its own pre-order. Not sure why you’re running into problems. I don’t believe there are any territorial restrictions set up, either. Clear your cache/cookies and try to pre-order from GameAgent again. If you still have problems, check the support site; you’ll be able to contact the support team for assistance there. http://help.gameagent.com/home

  • Zaim

If I pre-order the game through Gameagent will I be able to play it with Steam Play? Or will it be for Mac users only? Thanks :D

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, purchasing the game from GameAgent (or any store other than the Mac App Store) will get you the Steam version.

  • Jake

I meet all the the requirements except for I am running Snow Leopard and have an NVIDIA 9400M graphics card. Am I completely out of luck?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

You’ll definitely need to upgrade your OS to play. Once upgraded, your 9400M MIGHT play it, but there’s no guarantee on how the game will perform. It’s important to note that Aspyr will be limited in the support in can provide if you play on unsupported hardware.

I realize it’s hard to justify dropping the $$$ for a new Mac just to play a game, but it’s highly recommended you meet all minimum requirements in order to get the best play experience.

    • mitchell271

Unfortunately, yes, on 2 accounts. Lion and Mountain Lion won’t run on older models. Unless you have an Intel based computer, you can’t upgrade your OS.

  • http://twitter.com/Rookeree M.J.R.

I’ve heard some scary stories about GameAgent’s DRM policies. Is it true I only get 2 activations of the game? If I backup the game after it’s activated, will I be OK?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Purchasing Borderlands 2 from GameAgent (or anywhere other than the Mac App Store) will get you the Steam-integrated version, meaning you won’t have to worry about Aspyr/GameAgent’s unique Mac DRM.

That being said, we generally try to be pretty open and understanding re: any game you purchase from GameAgent. We’re usually happy to reset download limits, activation limits, etc, within reason.

      • http://twitter.com/Rookeree M.J.R.

Awesome, thanks for the response Russ. I just pre-ordered through GameAgent. Can’t WAIT to play!

  • http://twitter.com/qieru qieru

Is it possible to pre-order this game but give the code to a friend as a gift? Or is it associated to a specific account or something?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

I think that should work fine. The code isn’t tied to any particular account until it’s actually activated on Steam.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

You guys should port RIFT to the Mac :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694656359 facebook-694656359

So when you guys gonna port RIFT to Mac?

  • http://www.facebook.com/andres.castellano.5030 Andres Castellano

because the command does not work with the PS3 Borderlands 2 in one if it works, I have the Xbox-360 and want to buy a controller, you can put the driver as feralinteractive in Borderlands??

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

It’s very unlikely there will be an official update that adds support for the PS3 controller. If you want to use a controller, you will need to use the wired Xbox 360/Games for Windows controller. It shouldn’t require any special drivers.

  • http://twitter.com/Miharin Alisa Korpela

I just noticed the euro price in Game Agent; €33,99 including the Mechromancer pack. Ordered, hope I get the Steam key soon!

Not sure where those reports are coming from. Haven’t seen any myself. Regardless, if you purchase the game, you’ll be able to download it. Does anyone know if there’s support for the -wireless- 360 gamepad? It’s been disappointing to try major game releases only to find out that my gamepad won’t work, while other titles such as Valve’s excellent games or numerous indie games have no trouble with it. Even the fine folks at SuperGiant Games got the wireless controller working in short order after I reported a few problems to them.

I’m getting ahead of myself, though. I see the FAQ mentions support for the wired X360 controller; is there support for the wireless?

  • http://twitter.com/Rookeree M.J.R.

I’ve been really enjoying BL2 so far! It’s a bit difficult to find online players to play with though. When will the Mac version be updated so that we can play with the PC players?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

There’s no official ETA yet on when Mac and PC will be in sync, but you can expect at least several weeks. Should have more definitive info soon.

      • http://twitter.com/Rookeree M.J.R.

Thanks for the update. Is there an official place I can check for word on this?

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

I keep on running into problems right after the developer splash screens, and when I get to the actual game, the entire section of the screen is blank, except for the upper left corner, which is only showing the lower right corner

  • scep

ok, nvm, found out the problem, ok, if anyone else has this problem, you need to both run and start the game on the lion desktop you start it on. I usually push my games off to the side and browse websites while it loads, but if you move the window before the game fully loads, or switch desktops, than your game will run into this glitch where as if the entire screen shifted to the upper right hand corner

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Good information. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Tom1723

I’ve been having a lot of trouble with Borderlands 2 concerning how to connect the Xbox 360 wired controller to the game. I am a total noob on mac games but saw how this game accepted the Xbox 360 controller and looked into it. I downloaded a driver for it, and as soon as i inserted the controller into my macbook it recognised it. However it did not work in the game. I then looked into soem forums and found that others had been having the same problem: http://steamcommunity.com/app/49520/discussions/0/882966057068909359/ and i followed the instructions given on removing the drivers but it still doesn’t work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Hmm, as noted, it shouldn’t really require any extra drivers. It was a simple plug and play issue for me. If you’re still having trouble, please contact Aspyr Support. They should be able to help you get the gamepad working. http://support.aspyr.com

      • http://twitter.com/Rookeree M.J.R.

I had the same problem with Call of Duty. You’re going to have to remove the drivers to get it to work. Check out this youtube tutorial, he shows how to uninstall at the beginning. You can find the uninstall files you need linked right below the youtube clip:

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwMpV8p26xc

    • mitchell271

Aspyr includes the drivers in their games. I think that they think it’s for easy of use but in reality most people with 360 controllers that use them on our macs already have the tattieboggle driver which renders the Aspyr driver unusable.

Aspyr, if you read this, please take out your driver or at least include an option to disable it. I love the games that you port but it’s such a pain to have to manually uninstall my driver every single time I want to play your games.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andres.castellano.5030 Andres Castellano

when you get the patch pa to play with the PC?

  • Valek

patch 1.3 has just hit on PC and still no clue from devs when any form of patching is coming to mac. Oh and if you release patch 1.2.2 for the mac version… us mac gamers will still be angry since itll still be out of sync with the PC version. The least you could do is work on both at the same time and release the same patch to both PC and Mac and the same time.

Another issue is when you do matchmaking on macs… it pairs you with PC players and then after you join it tells you that the versions of the game are incompatible. If youre gonna have it out of sync… at least pair us with mac players until its patched. As it stands I havnt been able to find a group on mac. Maybe thats just because im low level.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Patch 1.2.2 is actually scheduled for a Mac release this week. The thought was that it would bring the Mac version in sync with the PC, but as you know now, Gearbox/2K released version 1.3 last week. While Aspyr would love to release new patches for both Mac and PC at the same time, it doesn’t always work out that way. However, Aspyr is committed to minimizing downtime between versions and is working with Gearbox to come up with the best solution.

As for your matchmaking woes, it shouldn’t be trying to match you with PC players to begin with right now (since the versions are out of sync). Would you mind submitting the issue to Aspyr Support (http://support.aspyr.com)? That way they can properly bug it and provide a fix if necessary.

I’ve not been able to play Civ5 one single time (even though there has been the period of maybe 3 months total as far as i know) since the game come out with my PC friends.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Actually, scratch that part about the Creature Slaughter Dome–I misspoke. Apparently it’s still in testing. Sorry!

    • Valek

So… patch 1.2.2 is out on mac… and still no changes. I cannot join a single multiplayer match… i use the “quick match” feature. It tells me that a match has been found… connecting to host… bla bla bla… i get the game loading screen and the suddenly “the game you are trying to join is running an incompatible version of the game. Try updating your game”. So once again… Borderlands 2 … no multiplayer available… sooooo worth the money.

  • fishburo

why can’t i use my ps3 or xbox 360 controller for borderlands 2 mac. the controllers work in steams big picture but nothing for the game itself. anyone know what to do?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The only supported controller is the wired Xbox 360 controller. If this is the controller you’re using, there may be an issue with hardware drivers. I would recommend contacting Aspyr Support for further assistance. http://support.aspyr.com

  • awesome80s

We NEED an Update Aspyre! Mac Players are stuck in 1.1.3 while our PC friends are chillin in 1.3.1. Also, we are missin a truck load of DLC (Mr. Torgue, Creature Dome, etc.)

Please update ASAP Aspyre, I wanna kill badasses with my friends!

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

V1.2.2 should be releasing for the Mac very soon, though obviously Macs and PCs will still be out of sync. It will be 2013 before versions sync up, unfortunately. However, I know Aspyr is working closely with Gearbox and 2K to try to minimize the downtime.

As for DLC, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage will be releasing with the v1.2.2 patch, and the Creature Slaughter Dome should work with the Mac version as is.

  • matt

This is the Mac App Store policy that is screwing this over.. why the hell would you why the hell would you on a Mac… for real. It blows my mind my people would ever consider playing a game on a Mac. My god I bet the game run better on a freaking Wii

  • hayoun gabriel

What languages does Borderlands 2 for Macstore version and are you doing french update

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Borderlands 2 on the Mac App Store supports English only at this time, though there is the possibility it may get an update to support a few additional languages, including French. That being said, nothing is guaranteed. If French support is really important, I’d recommend picking up the Steam version.

Need patch 1.3 for mac guys, can’t invite friends from the PC world… very annoying

  • HeyLetsrace

Where can I find the Save Files when bought from the Mac App Store?

    • matulaj

It should be under “library/preferences/borderlands2″ did you find it?

  • Nish

Hi. I bought this game with 3 other friends who are all on pc. I, however, am on mac. When can I play with them? And can I continue playing with them throughout updates?

Just love Apple logic. Kill something that was fun. Clap, clap.

  • ER

What is the rating of Borderland 2 on PC, is it 17 years + ?

    • matulaj

Yes, Borderlands 2 is rated M for Mature, which is also 17+ years of age. If you ever have any questions about the rating of a game, check out esrb.org. Any game with a rating in the US is listed on that website.

  • T

Can we play online with PC users if we have MAC and have bootcamp with Windows?

    • matulaj

Yes, you should be able to, because for all intents and purposes, you’re gaming on a “Windows machine.”

  • nattyl

Will an xbox 360 controller work if I have the game downloaded from the Mac App Store?

    • matulaj

Yes, a wired xbox 360 controller should work whether the game is purchased through Steam OR Mac App Store. Aspyr built in compatibility with that particular controller regardless of where you purchase it from.

  • Nitashi

    put the patch 1.3.1 already!

    • matulaj

They’re hard at work on it Nitashi! As Elizabeth of Aspyr said, “The lead SKU (i.e. the PC version), however, is an audience that is 10x what the Mac audience is. Bugs on the PC may, at times, be more important than focusing on fixing syncing issues since that satisfies the larger audience. But this may not always be true, so we’ll continue to work to see if we can improve that experience. I can say that at some point in the product lifecycle, the game becomes more stable, and in the long term, players should experience in-sync gaming. It’s just more difficult during the first year following launch because of the flow of patches and DLC, but there will be a time where it is a more stable experience.”

So only the wired Xbox 360 control is supported? What about the wireless Xbox 360 controller?! Can I buy a cable and use it as a wired controller? Or do I have to buy a whole new controller?

    • matulaj

Good question Conrad. I’m not sure. The easiest way to find out would be to ask Aspyr Support: http://support.aspyr.com

  • Funk

Since release, I have YET (as PC) to ever be able to play with my friends on Mac, The update syncing NEVER HAPPENS, which is what is killing this game for me, I have been slumping through the campaign just to finish with one character as the main reason I bought it was to play with specific friends. Please for the love of god just delay the PC updates till the mac update is ready for launch, ITS THAT SIMPLE.

    • matulaj

Actually, it’s not that simple. Here’s a quote from VP of Publishing for Aspyr, Elizabeth on this topic: “Our partners, and particularly Gearbox, are incredibly supportive of our efforts. I think Aspyr can be better at articulating issues with our partners, and then perhaps we can see sync timing improve. The lead SKU (i.e. the PC version), however, is an audience that is 10x what the Mac audience is. It’s just more difficult during the first year following launch because of the flow of patches and DLC, but there will be a time where it is a more stable experience.”

will we be able to play with PC counterparts this life time?

    • matulaj

Yes, you will. It along with the Hammerlock DLC are in testing and should be up in the next 3-6weeks.

  • Hereticphil

Hi all! Anybody knows if I can play on my Mac with a friend who plays on Playstation 3? Thank you for your responses :-)

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Sorry, there’s no cross-platform between Macs (or PCs for that matter) and consoles. The only cross-platform multiplayer available is between Macs and PCs.

      • Hereticphil

Thank you for the response. That’s a sad news… Hope it could change in near future. I find that Borderlands 2 deserve same online play. It would be better for all players.

  • Kyle

I am trying to decide whether to buy the app-store version or the steam version. The app-store version is $15 less, however does not have multiplayer yet. I saw above that it said it would be released in “late January/February”, but I don’t know if its worth waiting. Can you give us a more straight forward date?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Still no official release date for the Mac App update, though I can say it’s getting close. We’re still aiming for a February release, though it’s possible it may bleed into early March, depending on the approvals process.

If you’re concerned about price, you can actually still grab the Steam version from the GameAgent Store (http://www.gameagent.com/games/borderlands-2) for $30 (discount ends at 11:59pm CST, Feb 11). As you noted, Steam version is a little more fully-featured.

Ultimately, though, the versions should match up feature-wise (the exception being SHiFT codes and cross-platform multiplayer, which are Steam-exclusive), so it really depends on which ecosystem you prefer–Steam or Mac App.

  • http://buffaloseven.tumblr.com Brad

Please add support for the Wireless 360 controller. It’s painful to see significant releases like this ship with no support for it while small, 1 or 2-man indie teams consistently put out great software with full controller support across multiple gamepads.

Surprised that this doesn’t support cloud saves cross-platform with the PC version, unless there’s something very platform specific in the save files.

Other than that, great game and it runs surprisingly well on my 2010 Macbook Pro. A little worse than when I boot into windows using Boot Camp, but not enough to really care.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Hey, Brad, thanks for the feedback. Generally when Aspyr does ports, they only add whatever controller support is native to the PC version. That being said, we’re seeing an increasing number of requests for additional controller support, so that’s definitely something we can look at for future games and updates!

As for the lack for cross-platform cloud saves, that feature was disabled to prevent loss or corruption of data between platforms for the times that the Mac and PC versions are out of sync (which is likely frequently in the first year of release). I think you should be able to still transfer save files using some type of physical media (like a thumb drive), but you do so at your own risk.

      • http://buffaloseven.tumblr.com Brad

Thanks for the quick response. The reason the controller part surprised me is because the PC version does support the wireless X360 controller flawlessly right “out of the box”.

The cloud saves reasoning makes perfect sense, thanks for clarifying that for me.

  • Liam

Can i play with a ps3 controller on my App Store version of borderlands 2?

    • matulaj

Officially, no the game does not support the PS3 controller. It only supports the Wired XBOX 360 Controller. However it’s probably possible using the Tattie Boggle drivers out there on the net and a little elbow grease.

  • http://www.facebook.com/cadeab Cody Buffington

I’m so confused, can anybody please tell me where my saved game files are for MAC I have the most current OSX System (so lion) but i can’t find them anywhere.

  • http://www.facebook.com/cadeab Cody Buffington

Does anybody know where the saved game files are for MAC OS System Mountain lion???????? i can’t find them.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Hey, Cody, which version of Borderlands 2 are you playing? Depending on whether it’s the Mac App or Steam version, the files are in different places.

  • HarryT

I cant find my save game files anywhere? any help? (Mac app store version)

    • HarryT

Found it, mine was in the location:Library/Containers/com.aspyr.borderlands2.appstore/Data/Library/Application Support/Borderlands 2/WillowGame/SaveData

      Hope this helps.

  • Jmart

I’m a level 50 gunzerker (mac app store version) and I have been trying to farm legendaries forever, I do not have a single one… Is this because the mac app store version is out of date and the drop rates suck? I also have seen mechromancer class mods on various drops but I thought that DLC was not out yet for the app store. I am very confused to say the least.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The drop rate for weapons hasn’t been affected by any updates; if you haven’t found any legendaries, it’s really more a matter of bad luck. You’re probably already aware, but specific enemies/bosses are more likely to drop specific weapons/gear. Is there a particular gun or piece of equipment you’re looking for in general?

As for the Mechro class mods, those must be built into the base code; the Mechromancer DLC will be available later this week via in-app purchase.

when is the mac app store version of borderlands 2 going to get ultimate vault hunter mode

  • mdb917

Can you get a season pass through steam for mac? It says Windows only on the page but there is nothing about it here

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, purchasing the Season Pass through Steam should work on the Mac, even though it only shows a Windows icon. All of the DLC supports Steam Play, so purchasing on PC will get you same the content on the Mac. All current Season Pass content is available on both PC and Mac; the last piece of Season Pass content, the recently announced Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, is due June 25 on PC (it’s likely the Mac version will be released some time after).
