Aspyr Mac FAQs: Call of Duty: Black Ops

Posted by Russ Looney

Call of Duty Black Ops MacCall of Duty: Black Ops was just confirmed for a September 27 release.  See below for more details on the highly-anticipated game!

Q: What does the customer get when they purchase Call of Duty®: Black Ops for the Mac?

A: Black Ops Mac includes all of the original single player and multiplayer content PLUS the Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike Content Pack, which adds 5 diverse maps including 4 multiplayer maps and a new Zombie experience!

Q: Will the other Black Ops Content Packs be available to the Mac audience?

A: The Call of Duty: Black Ops – Rezurrection Content Pack will be available at launch for $14.99.  The Black Ops: Annihilation/Escalation Content Pack, including “Escalation”and “Annihilation”content,  will be available as one purchase for  $24.99 and released in mid-November.

Q: Are there any features that were included in the PC version of Black Ops that will not be included in Black Ops Mac?

A: Yes, because Black Ops Mac supports Mac-to-Mac multiplayer only there were some changes made to accommodate the different distribution outlets and their varied features (Mac App and Steam) which specifically affected how multiplayer match-making and friends work.   The following features from the PC are not included in the Mac version of Black Ops

  • Friends – Players cannot invite or join via request to a multiplayer server.  Public multiplayer is all that is offered.
  • Private Matches – Only public multiplayer servers are available.
  • Remote Console – Players will not be able to purchase and host their own server.
  • Theater Mode – Players will not be able to create multiplayer movie files.

Q: Can the Mac App version play Multiplayer with the Steam version?

A: Yes!   Both the Mac App and Steam version can play multiplayer together, taking advantage of the full Mac community.  To meet other Call of Duty: Black Ops Mac players and fans join the Black Ops Mac Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/BlackOpsMac

Q: Are there any difference in the Mac App Store and the Steam builds that will be distributed?

A: Yes, the Steam build of Black Ops will support the following languages:

  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Spanish

The Mac App Store build will support English only

The Mac App Store version will support Game Center for achievements for customer using Mac OS X 10.8 only

Q: Will Mac players be able to play PC players in multiplayer?

A:  Black Ops Mac supports Mac-to-Mac Multiplayer only.

Q: What are the Minimum System Requirements for Black Ops for the Mac?

A: You can check to see if your Mac meets the minimum requirements by using the Mac Match feature on the Black Ops page at GameAgent.com: http://www.gameagent.com/games/call-of-duty-black-ops

Minimum System Requirements:

2.4 GHz CPU Speed | 4 GB RAM | 15 GB free disk space | (ATI): Radeon HD 3870; (NVidia): GeForce 650M | 512 MB VRam

Supported Video cards:

NVIDIA GeForce 650M

ATI Radeon HD 3870, HD 4850, HD 5670, HD 5750, HD 5770, HD 5870, HD 6750M, HD 6770M, HD 6970M

We do NOT recommend that you play Call of Duty: Black Ops on any of the following unsupported graphic chipsets:

HD3000 (2011 Mac Mini, 2011 MacBook Air, 2011 13” MacBook Pro)

HD4000 (2012 13” MacBook Pro)

ATI Radeon HD 2000 series, HD 4670, HD6630M

NVIDIA 8000 & 9000 series, GT100 series, 320M, 330M

Intel Integrated GMA950, x3100

Recommended System Requirements:

CPU Speed: Intel Quad Core 2.6 GHz | Memory: 4 GB or higher | Video RAM: 512 MB

Q: Does Call of Duty: Black Ops for the Mac support any Gamepads?

A:  Call of Duty: Black Ops for the Mac supports the Xbox 360 wired gamepad

Q: What else should I know about Call of Duty: Black Ops for the Mac?

A: Good question!  A few things to note:

  • We have created default settings for the most optimal experience.  These are “smart” settings (respond to your machine) and we make them for a reason!  If you jack up your settings you will likely see a deterioration in the gameplay experience.
  • Mac App Players:
    • People who purchase Black Ops for the Mac and upgrade from 10.7 to 10.8 will re-start their achievement tracking
    • People who change their Game Center nickname will lose progress as their achievements are tied to their nickname.  They can get it back by changing back to their original nickname.
  • An Internet connection is required for Multiplayer and Zombies.

Q: My question hasn’t been answered…

A: Leave your question in the comments below!  Likewise, you can ask Aspyr Media directly via Facebook or Twitter!

  • Slappy

No offense. I have been a mac gamer for years, and used to love playing COD 1 and 2 with my students and colleagues at school. Now with no private matches, you unfortunately have lost a sale. I have not given up on Aspyr but in a word, this “SUCKS!” Other mac steam games can be played privately…. oh well!

    What about Steamplay?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Unfortunately, Call of Duty: Black Ops will not feature Steam Play.

      • brady fisher

Another money thing, eh? but then again it is right in a way as they are 2 different platforms, much like xbox and ps3.

    • matulaj

Call of Duty: Black Ops is not Steamplay-supported, meaning purchasing the PC version will not allow you to download the Mac version free of charge. But you can purchase the game from Steam and it does utilize Steamworks for certification, achievements, etc.

      • Mr Boogeyman

No need to put ect. when the only 2 features you support are certification and achievements period unless your planning on adding features later on.

  • john beer

can we buy a box game of call of duty black opps

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The box version will be available later this fall, likely in November.

  • http://www.facebook.com/martin.hallen Martin Hallén

So my MacBookPro8,2 is outdated? (2720QM) i7 2,2MHz with a max turbo frequency on 3,3MHz?

    • matulaj

If it’s a quadcore i7 you should be fine. I would recommend making sure you have plenty of RAM though, more than the minimum RAM always ensures a much smoother play experience!

      • Mr Boogeyman

        What about a C2D Mac’s? and 9600mGT and 330M?

        • matulaj

Yes, a C2D should work just fine as long as it’s 2.4GHz. As for the video cards, as I said in another post, Aspyr are not saying it absolutely will not run on an unsupported chipset. All of the video cards you’re wondering about *MIGHT* play it. However, Aspyr gives a minimum video card as a recommendation, saying that’s the minimum they recommend to get the sort of performance you’d want/expect in a new game. Anything lower and you play at your own risk, with the possibility of slow frame rates and graphical errors. If you would like GameAgent to do a blog post detailing performance on lesser cards, we can certainly looking into doing something like that.

  • Mr Boogeyman

Seeing as Valve is now allowing Mac Only games on Steam any chance we will see CoD4 on Steam?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, COD4 Mac is definitely in the queue to bring to Steam, though we don’t have an ETA on a release just yet.

      • Mr Boogeyman

So seeing as I own the Retail (Mac), MAS, and PC version am I going to have to pay for a Steam version now?

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

That shouldn’t be necessary, at least not for multiplayer purposes. We’ll have more info closer to the release.

  • Iam Black

Will it not play at all with an unsupported graphic chipset?

    • Maxime Bernier

i have tried with the intel HD 3000, it works but gets an average of 20-25fps

      • Mr Boogeyman

        What about a 9600mGT or 330M or HD6630M?

        • matulaj

I hate to burst everyone’s bubble, but the person above who claims to have played it using an HD 3000 is more than likely just playing the PC version in Bootcamp or some non-official Mac version. Aspyr are not saying it absolutely will not run on an unsupported chipset. Now if you guys would like GameAgent to do a blog post detailing performance on lesser cards, we can certainly looking into doing something like that.

          • Iam Black

Thanks for the reply and also I would like that

          • Mr Boogeyman

That would be very helpfull. I know the minimum specs are there for a reason but is the 330m that old that it’s unable to play at a decent frame rate?

      • koolmagicguy

I have 8GB of RAM. Will that make a difference? What settings did you play on?

        • Maxime Bernier

not really, i might increase the frame rates by 3-7. I have 4 and its not bad. i played on medium ish settings.

  • Maximeuble

Can I choose language (english instead of french) if I buy it in french retailer ?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, you can select any supported language. The one exception is if you purchase from the Mac App Store; that version supports English only.

  • eager

So, where is it? Don’t see it on Steam yet…

  • b.a.p

could you do a test with the new macbook pros like the 13 inch with the intel hd4000 I’m just wondering how it would run

    • BlackIron_PTY

you can play with it. no problem

  • Mr Boogeyman

So what about Nvidia GPU’s ? Does this apply to all GPU’s or just the 650M?
“Due to performance concerns, Aspyr does not recommend purchasing or playing Call of Duty : Black Ops on any Mac that has an Nvidia Graphics Chipset. Nvidia is currently working on providing an graphics driver update that will provide official support for the latest Mac Book Pro with the Nvidia 650M Graphics Card.”

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The updated driver will only affect the 650M. Any other Nvidia card will still be unsupported.

      • Mr Boogeyman

        But what about performance?

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Performance of the 650M will be significantly improved. There will still be issues with the other cards, though, such as reduced frame rate. We’re looking at putting up some test reviews of various unsupported cards on the GameAgent Blog. If you have a specific card you’d like to see, let us know.

          • Mr Boogeyman

I would like to see results for: 9600mGT, 320M, 330M, HD 6630M and Intel HD 4000. For list of top GPU’s see here http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey?platform=mac

          • Mr Boogeyman

And what about Nvidia GPU’s for the Mac Pro?

            HD 4000

  • .

Soo hows that Black Ops Launch going for ya?

  • Marv

I bought cod bo for windows 2010. will i able to download it for mac or do i have to buy it again?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Black Ops is not a Steam Play title, so you’ll have to buy it again to play on Mac.

  • Strykher

I’m with Slappy – Long time Mac gamer, COD4 server on my Mac Pro and play on my MBP with friends and family around the country. Occasionally I will remove the password to allow other to join, which is always fun and has led to a few online gamers we now consider friends. Our games are always small
2-6 players. VERY VERY disappointed this option is not available. I want to know why…is it Aspyr descision or Apple that won’t allow that – Disgusted !!!

  • black opsplayer

hello i don’t think this is supposed to happen but i bought the game threw the app store and when i played multiplayer my username was my full name which makes me kinda uncomfortable. is there a solution to this or do i have to stick with it?

    • iPEGASUS

I am having the same issue, went through the files and couldnt find anything

      • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

If you have OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) and Game Center, it will use your Game Center username. Otherwise, it will use your Mac’s profile name. You should be free to change either of these if you wish, though note that changing your username will reset your multiplayer progress. All multiplayer stats are tied to the username, so if you change back, your progress will be recovered.

        • http://www.nrc.nl Peter

I’m on 10.7.5. Do I really want to change my Mac’s username? Why isn’t it possible to change the username in CODBO?

        • http://www.facebook.com/dmitry.metelkin.3 Dmitry Metelkin

This is very strange! Must I asking anybody to get privileges to change my nickname?
May I get answer please how to do it step by step.

          MacPro, 10.7.5

        • http://www.facebook.com/dmitry.metelkin.3 Dmitry Metelkin

I’ve just Installed Mountain Lion, my Nickname replaced automatically. So.. I lost all my progress for Month. Perfect!

I’can’t rename and recover my stats because my previous name in use by another account. Apple way!

  • brady fisher

n private match or theatre? oh well im in it for the zombies and mp anyway. is there combat training?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

      Yes, Combat Training is included.

  • Cory James

When will you update the the Macbook Retina display with the 650M Nvidia card? Nvidia just did a driver update 10/1/12 but it didn’t do jack and still plays like crap unless you are on the lowest settings.

  • http://www.facebook.com/FelipeBermudezR Felipe Bermudez

What would happen if I play it on my macbook pro? With Intel HD4000? Would it damage it?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The game probably won’t run optimally (you’ll likely see hitching, slow framerate), but I can’t imagine how or why it would damage your Mac.

  • lack

Any idea of when HD 4000 support should be available?

    • matulaj

There currently aren’t any plans to officially support the HD4000. As stated elsewhere in the comments section, you *could* play it using this graphics card, but expect a slower framerate and some hitching.

  • lack

And idea when HD4000 will be supported??

  • rentedrainbow

Anyone have any luck getting the 360 controller working?

  • Jon

Is there LAN support at all? We do a lot of gaming in the office but if it’s not supported then I guess we’ll stick to Modern Warfare.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Hey, Jon, I’m afraid multiplayer in Black Ops is online only–no LAN. Sorry!

  • Nintendick

is it possible to play combat training/solo zombies without having internet connection? you usually wouldn’t need internet connection to play these game-modes. Or do I just need to play the game once with internet connection and it should work anytime?

  • Nintendick

is it possible to play combat training/solo zombies without having internet connection? you usually wouldn’t need internet connection to play these game-modes. Or do I just need to play the game once with internet connection and it should work anytime?

REPLY TO THIS ONE NOT THE OTHER ONE I POSTED

    • matulaj

You have to be connected to the net to play those modes. You can play the SP campaign without being online, but that’s it.

  • Ben

does any one know how to get gamepad to work?

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurence.olivieri Laurence Olivieri

I downloaded the driver for a xbox 360 wired controller but the game doesn’t recognize it as a gamepad? How do I fix?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Hey, Laurence, sorry to leave you hanging. Have you gotten the controller to work? If not, please contact Aspyr Support for assistance. You can email them (support@aspyr.com) or visit http://support.aspyr.com to open a ticket.

    • mac

Hi Lawrence – did you get the xbox controller working? I have the same issue. Im using the tattiebogle.net driver for macosx

      • matulaj

My understanding is that if a game natively supports a controller, having the tattieboggle drivers on and running simultaneously it confuses the game as to what to respond to. Try turning off tattieboggle and see if you can get it to work. I know I went through this trying to get the wired Xbox controller to work on Force Unleashed.

  • dugger

Will CoD:Black Ops run ok with ATI Radeon HD4670 if only using single player? Any experience trying this?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The HD4670 is an unsupported card, so Aspyr can’t really recommend playing Black Ops on it. That being said, whether it plays “okay” can be pretty subjective. Some people have purchased the game and been perfectly happy playing on unsupported hardware (though honestly haven’t seen any user reports on the HD4670); others, not so much.

I’ve played the game (single player) with a HD2600, and was perfectly fine. Frame rate was a bit slow, and there was some occasional hitching, but I didn’t feel like it was anything game-breaking. Probably wouldn’t attempt multiplayer, though.

You may also want to check out the reviews on GameAgent; most are tagged with Mac Match profiles, so you can see what machines people were using: http://www.gameagent.com/games/call-of-duty-black-ops

  • Blazee

ok so i updated my macbook and just updated my black ops but now its showing my whole name and it restarted everything what the heck

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The recent Apple software update has caused Call of Duty: Black Ops and its Game Center link to disconnect (Mac App version only). Aspyr has contacted Apple to try and resolve this issue. You can find more info at http://support.aspyr.com/entries/22362406-my-mp-stats-have-just-reset-what-the-heck

      • Blazee

so it seems i have to wait a while till this is resolved am i correct?

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, that’s correct–there’s no current solution to retrieve your MP progress, though Aspyr is working to get it fixed ASAP.

  • James

I opened my server window on Black Ops today and it isnt showing any of the public servers. So now I can’t join to play others on line. How do I fix this. Also, I can see the number of current players and servers in the top right corner of the screen but none of them show in any of the tabs (i.e. ranked, unranked, favorites, wager, etc…)

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Have you updated to the latest version (1.16)? You’ll need to do so in order to play multiplayer. If that doesn’t help, I would suggest visiting the Aspyr Support site (http://support.aspyr.com) to find additional info and/or open a support ticket.

I just upgraded to 10.8 and Now my black ops has reset because Game center already has a user with my name. So I can’t set my game center user name to match my computer user name that was used in the game under 10.7 What do I do to get back my hours and hours of game play experience?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=631575216 Randy S. Little

Gotta say I have told people to not buy this. Why did the hacked version running on wine thing have better play then this official release? I even played cod MW2 via the wine wrapper hack and it played with all the features.

  • benjamin

my cod doesn’t start up on mac it bounces once then a blue call of duty app
comes on my dock and then they both go away and it happens every time what do i do anyone?

will the game run on macbook retina pro with 2.3 Ghz processor, intel i7, 8 GB ram? if not, will blacks op 1 work?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Black Ops 1 is the only COD Black Ops game available on the Mac. You can see if your Mac meets the minimum requirements by using the Mac Match feature on GameAgent: http://www.gameagent.com/games/call-of-duty-black-ops

Even if you don’t meet the MSRs, you still may be able to play the game, just not at the “optimal” level. I’ve seen several users that are quite happy with the game despite not meeting the minimum requirements. That being said, not meeting the MSRs means you’ll also be ineligible to receive support from Aspyr if it’s not working well.

  • nightmare

    sos plzzzz

i bought the cod black ops ii for windose and i have windows 7 on my mac, can i run the game? i have mc724, 2.3 Ghz core i5 & 4 GB ram intel grafic 3000.

  • sirzooky

If i bought call of duty black ops for mac through the apple app store, will the 2 expansions work, or do i have to buy it again through the game agent or through steam?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

The two expansions are available as in-app purchases if you buy Black Ops through the Mac App Store. Purchasing the expansions from any other store will NOT work with Black Ops purchased through Mac App.

  • sirzooky

The British Servers have disappeared off my server list, they were there before, what’s happening?

  • Zook

    Right…where do I start?
I bought black ops for mac, only 4 servers had people playing and all the British servers were not shown after playing for a day. I upgraded to mountain lion so I could get the upgrades. after getting the upgrades, and having to use Game centre I lost my MP history, which I expected, even though the user with the name i cant use is me. The problem is, there are still no British servers, and it seems like i dont have anymore maps than I did before buying the 2 expansions. This has ended up costing me £72 in total. Please , can anyone explain what is going on?

  • fanblue

could you tell me how to stop the automatic movement of the camera in black ops for mac?

  • datty

thats not so smart, why will be the achievment and items be resseted if you upgrade to mountain lion

  • richard yek

Why my serve are so little when I play multiplayer mode ? I used mac 15 inch with retina display.

    • matulaj

I’m assuming you mean that you’re not seeing very many people on the servers to play with. The best way to guarantee that there are people to play with is to set up a game using the Facebook Black Ops for Mac group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/BlackOpsMac/ There you can connect with other Black Ops Mac players and coordinate games together!

  • Suckball5

    What a pile of *#&t.

  • Napalm Opus

Im trying to use my wired afterglow ax.1 controller with black ops on my mac but when i go to settings (in game) “Gamepad” is dim and not clickable… Any help???

    • matulaj

To my knowledge the only controller that will work in a “plug and play” fashion is the official microsoft brand wired xbox 360 controller. Your controller is incredibly close though, so I’d check with http://support.aspyr.com and ask them about it, just to find out for certain.

  • Cod

I have changed my username on the mac but COD doesn´t change my nickname in multiplayer. What can I do?

    • matulaj

If you have OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) and Game Center, it will use your Game Center username. Otherwise, it will use your Mac’s profile name. You should be free to change either of these if you wish, though note that changing your username will reset your multiplayer progress. All multiplayer stats are tied to the username, so if you change back, your progress will be recovered.

  • Ricky

Do you think this would play on a macbook air 13inch with intel core i7 8gb Ram and hd 4000

    • matulaj

Technically, your video card doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. Aspyr gives a minimum video card as a recommendation, saying that’s the minimum they recommend to get the sort of performance you’d want/expect in a new game. Anything lower and you play at your own risk, with the possibility of slow frame rates and graphical errors. So you could probably still play the game, just not at the performance you’d probably like.

      • Ricky

Thank you very much for the reply ……….
but anyway i do have an imac 2012 which should play this game smoothly with some awesome graphics

        • Ricky

also one more question is there mule kick in zombies

          • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yep! The Mule Kick perk is included.

          • Ricky

Do you have to purchase the mule kick or does it come with the game???
            Also thnx for the reply

  • cjc

can i play multiplay with someone on the same mac? like using the same laptop and both of us play?

    • matulaj

I’m not quite sure what you mean. How can you play multiplayer with someone using the same computer? As in both of you playing simultaneously? That doesn’t seem possible.

  • Aiden

I have the app with Gamecenter, and every time I try to play with other people it says the servers are down. Why is this? My connection is fine. Please try to help me

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

If you’re having any server issues, you should contact Aspyr Support. They’ll be able to help you figure out what’s wrong. http://support.aspyr.com

  • J.F.S

Can I play it with my Macbook Pro 15″ late 2011

    2,2 Ghz CPU Speed / 4 GB Ram / ATI: Radeon HD 6750M / 512 MB VRam

    • matulaj

You technically don’t meet the requirements, but you’re close. It’s like I say to everyone who asks, “will this play on X system?” that Aspyr gives a minimum requirements to get the sort of performance you’d want/expect in a new game. Anything lower and you play at your own risk, with the possibility of slow frame rates and graphical errors. So in all likelihood you can probably still play the game, just not at the performance you’d probably like. The fastest way to know if your system will play a game is to go to gameagent.com and turn on our Mac Match feature that will scan your system and tell you whether you meet the min. requirements for a game.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

In all honesty, you should be fine. 0.2 GHz isn’t going to make or break your game.

  • Mac

Hey can you play this on a late 2011 13 inch macbook pro hd 3000 8gb ram
    on medium settings

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

While the HD3000 technically isn’t a supported card, we’ve seen reports of people enjoying smooth gameplay on it (as long as they had enough RAM). I think 8GB should be enough to play the game, but I wouldn’t recommend playing on medium; could get pretty slow and “stuttery,” especially during heavy firefights. If anything, you’ll probably need to play on low settings.

Keep in mind, too, that Aspyr Support will be limited in how much assistance they can offer if you run into technical problems since you don’t meet the minimum requirements. I don’t want to scare you off, but I also want you to be informed.

Thnx I will get the game sooner or later and check it out Im a big a Big MAC AND CALL OF DUTY FAN

  • Nickeleye

Wait so if you buy the game from Steam for Mac then you can play with both Mac App Store players and Windows Steam players??? But if you buy it from the Mac App Store version then you can only play with Steam Mac players (and other app stores) but not Windows Steam players? How does the servers work like that?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

No, the game is Mac-to-Mac multiplayer only, no matter which version you purchase. Cross-platform is not supported.

  • tominator

When i try to play multiplayer or zombies on my 13 inch macbook pro, it says i have to verify my internet connection. If you can, please respond with multiply feedback ideas on how to fix this problem. I also am having problems with campaign. After i complete a mission, it freezes then it resumes after a few seconds.

Have you tried contacting Aspyr Support? They’re usually very excellent at diagnosing and fixing problems. Check them out at http://support.aspyr.com.

I have black ops version 1.15, so how does it upgrades to version 1.16???
    Please I really need help!

    • matulaj

It depends on what version (Mac App vs. Steam). Steam should automatically download updates when you turn it on, and Mac App should notify you of any updates when you open the store. If it’s still not clear and need help, please contact Aspyr support: http://support.aspyr.com

I live in an apartment with 4 people including me and we have two imacs and two macbook pros both are mid 2012 it is not the macbook retina .

both the imacs have are 27 inch i7 3.9 gh 8 gb ram gtx 680m 1gb

both mbp are 15 inch i7 3.7 gh 8gb ram intel hd 4000 512 mb

they all use the same apple id and was wondering if i purchase the rezurection map pack will i be able to put it on all the macs
and do you think the macbook pro will be able to play

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Assuming the same Apple ID was used to put Black Ops on each Mac, putting Rezurrection on each Mac shouldn’t be a problem.

The Macbook Pro, while technically not meeting the minimum requirement for video card, should be able to play the expansion. The Rezurrection Pack shouldn’t play any differently than the base game, so you can use that as a point of reference.

I think i put the graphic card wrong its not hd 4000 it was something else ,i will test it

  • Bob

I bought Black Ops for PC. But I switched to Mac, I don’t want to buy the game again because that is not fair, how come I cannot do that?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Sorry, Bob, but there were both technical and contractual reasons we couldn’t make Black Ops a Steam Play game this time around.

  • Comrade_Russian

Is there anything wrong with the prestige mode? I see other people who have prestiged but i cant for some reason. My level is 50 and it says i need zero exp to level up. Is there something else i need to do?

  • MacUser

So we can’t make a privet match if we bought it from app store?

    • matulaj

You are correct, you cannot make private matches. As we said in the FAQ, because Black Ops Mac supports Mac-to-Mac multiplayer ONLY there were some changes made to accommodate the different distribution outlets and their varied features (Mac App and Steam) which specifically affected how multiplayer match-making and friends work.

  • TFCON

Can the Mac App version play zombie Multiplayer with the Steam version? would i then just log me in via steam and enter the game?

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Yes, Mac App players can play any multiplayer mode with Steam players. If you have the Mac App version, there’s no need to do anything via Steam.

Mac App Store vs Stream: What is the preferred way to purchase games these days?

I am aware of the Question “Q: Are there any difference in the Mac App Store and the Steam builds that will be distributed?” in the FAQ, and the difference so far are supported languages. I don’t care so much about supported languages (English is just fine for me, even not being my mother tongue), and I really don’t care about Apple’s “Game Center”.

I also just know “Steam” by hearsay (I never bought anything from there yet).

So for games (in your opinion) purchases in the future, especially when it comes to “multiplayer support” (in case that would make a difference) and possible restrictions due to “sandboxing”: where should I buy?

    Thanks

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Great questions. If you’re really interested in multiplayer, then purchasing the Steam version is usually the better option. With the exception of Black Ops, most of Aspyr’s games on Steam feature cross-platform multiplayer, meaning Mac players can play with PC players, creating an overall larger online community. You can learn more about Steam in this Mac Gaming 101 article we posted: http://blog.gameagent.com/mac-gaming-101-what-is-steam/

Thank you too for your valuable answer! Cheers

    • matulaj

Till, there’s no easy answer to your question. It just depends on what you want out of your gaming experience. Each has it’s strengths and weaknesses. My biggest suggestion would be to read these articles we’ve written discussing the two platforms and after reading these see which one sounds more appealing and more fitting of your needs:

      Steam: http://blog.gameagent.com/mac-gaming-101-what-is-steam/

If after reading these you still have some questions, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help.

Well, thank you very much. I just stumbled over above FAQ while searching for “Call Of Duty: Black Ops” and thought that’s all there is. Excellent articles, they answer all my questions! Thanks!
