    Sorry, if it’s Steam, I don’t play. I don’t buy games that I can’t play unless I’m logged into someone’s server.

No worries–the Campaign Edition on the Mac App Store provides a good alternative if you’re still interested in playing!

Is the App Store version up to date? I seem to remember seeing some traffic a month or so ago that the Steam version had been updated with various performance fixes. Is the App Store version current with those changes?

        • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Not yet, but an update for the App Store version is due very soon. It’s going through the final testing stages.

          • DjangoZ

Good to hear. I thought purchasing through the App Store was a good idea, but waiting for updates/patches has me re-thinking that.

  • Jim Davis

I have to agree. I purchased Civ V a few years ago and then discovered I had to get Steam in order to be able to play it. To say the least I was really steamed!! So this is one offer I have no interest in despite the fact that Civ is my favourite computer game.

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Sorry about that, Jim–we try to be as clear as possible about the requirements for our games. If you haven’t checked it out already, you should grab the Campaign Edition of Civ V from the Mac App Store (no Steam required!). You get the full game except online multiplayer. Plus, as noted above it’s currently on sale along with all of the DLC as in-app purchases.

Why not make it easier to buy for those outside the States and/or didn’t purchase the campaign version on-line? Don’t want to buy it again just to get the extras – which I would love to have. Missed opportunity again Aspyr!

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

What exactly are you trying to purchase? All of the extras are available to purchase a la carte on both Steam and Mac App if you already have the base game. You can purchase the extras either directly through Steam or from the GameAgent Store (http://www.gameagent.com/games?filters%5Btags%5D=Civ+5+DLC); or if you have the Campaign Edition from the Mac App Store, all of the extras are available as in-app purchases (and currently on discount to boot).

Civ 5 WAS my favorite game ever! Then somehow Steam became involved and after a solid month of trying to get it to work I gave up. If this was strictly a load & play game I would buy the package but not with having to go thru some other entity to get a game to play that I have the DVD for!

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

Steam has always been integrated into Civilization V (all non-Mac App versions, at least), whether it was downloaded or purchased as a disc. If you’re having trouble getting the game to run, I strongly recommend you contact Aspyr Support (http://support.aspyr.com). They’ll be more than happy to help you figure out what’s wrong and get the game up and running again!

  • Jim

Umm, I already bought most of those expansions,…buy them again?

    • matulaj

No, this bundle is mostly for those that haven’t bought much DLC yet or haven’t bought the game yet but want all the content so far in one neat package. It’s about weighing the cost: if the content you don’t have yet is equal to or exceeds to price of the bundle then it’s a good deal; if not then no worries-maybe this version isn’t for you.
