Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition Mac FAQs

Where can I purchase Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition for the Mac?

Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition is or will be available for purchase at the Mac App Store, Aspyr’s GameAgent Store, and other participating digital retailers, including Amazon.com, Mac Game Store, Gamers Gate, and GameFly.

Will the game be available for purchase through the Steam Store?

Company of Heroes Complete on Mac will not be available for purchase through the Steam Store. The nature of Steam’s current store presents titles as hybrid options only.  Because Company of Heroes: Campaign Edition Mac is a different game from Company of Heroes PC this would provide a confusing customer experience for the Steam user, therefore we’re unable to sell it on Steam.  Aspyr continues to be fans of Valve and Steam and will support them when we can, so should Steam’s store change we’ll happily support Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition for sale via Steam.

Can I buy a boxed version of the game?

A boxed version for Company of Heroes Complete on Mac is currently in the works and we estimate it being available in April.  Please follow Aspyr on Facebook or Twitter so you can get the latest updates as we have them!

Why is the game called the “Campaign Edition?” Is there no multiplayer?

Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition for the Mac includes the fully-featured single player campaign from the original Company of Heroes as well as the additional campaigns and content from the expansions Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor.  The game does not contain any multiplayer features.

Why no multiplayer?  Will multiplayer be available in the future?

Company of Heroes utilizes a piece of middleware that does not have a viable Mac version available.  Because Company of Heroes utilizes dedicated servers and is not simple match-making multiplayer, it requires a full replacement of multiplayer systems in order to enable internet or LAN multiplayer; additionally, we cannot support skirmish mode because of how closely it is tied to multiplayer.  Therefore at this time there are no multiplayer options for Company of Heroes, and it’s unlikely we will support multiplayer for Company of Heroes in the future.

Will Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition run natively on my Mac?

Yes!  Like all of Aspyr Media’s games, Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition has been developed natively internally by Aspyr Studios to run on the Mac.

What are the system requirements to play Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition on the Mac?

We strongly recommend that your Mac meet these Minimum System Requirements before you decide to purchase:

My video card is not listed as being supported. What does that mean? Can I still play the game?

While Company of Heroes Complete: Campaign Edition may still work on your Mac despite your video card not being listed in the Supported Video Cards, Aspyr does not recommend purchasing a game if you do not meet the Minimum System Requirements.  If you purchase a game without meeting minimum system requirements, Aspyr will be unable to provide support from a customer care perspective.  If you have additional questions about whether the game will work on your machine, please contact Aspyr Support either by email (support@aspyr.com) or through its support site (http://support.aspyr.com) for assistance.

Does the game take advantage of the DX10 effects that were later patched into the PC version?

No, DX10 effects are not present in the Mac version of Company of Heroes. Mac OS does not support DX10 features as DX10 does not translate into Open GL.

Where are the saved games stored? I play on two computers and would like to move them back and forth.

Assuming you’re on Lion and using the Mac App Store version the save games are in ~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.cohappstore/Data/Library/Application Support/Company of Heroes/Savegames.

Otherwise, it’ll be ~/Library/Application Support/Company of Heroes/Savegames.

Remember this game when I was on a pc some years ago, it’s an insanely great game :) Unfortunately I loved the skirmish mode and multiplayer mode… So not for me on my Mac :-( (((

    Really sad for that…

Impossible for me to “downgrade” to windows. So life is that.

Thanks Aspyr to made the effort of bringing the game to Mac but I will not buy it at all because lack of multiplayer/skirmish modes :-( (

Why is there no skirmish? I can understand multiplayer, but skirmish where you play against the computer should be put on there via an upgrade. Anyone agree. But otherwise, TOTALLY LOVE IT!!!!!!

    • Gerrym

      Yes. Skirmish should be included.

      • pasly

        Well its freaking NOT

  • Damian_fox

Love the game. I like a lot of players would like to know where is skirmish mode. I love skirmish and would hope to have it as a download for mac very soon

    • Jasias84

I love the game, but online experience is the one i am looking for. Anyone knows if the online update is available will I have to buy another game?

  • Johndubeck

Why the chicken poop would they not put skirmish mode on the apple version!!!!!! Not only does it not have skirmish mode but it also costs $50 bucks!! For microsoft you can find it for $10 and it has skirmish mode!!!!!!! The problem is that my microsoft computer is not that good so i don’t want to get it. Me and my friends would be willing to get it if it had skirmish mode!!! So put it on!!!!!!

    • Gerrym

Skirmish gives you replay value once you completed the campaign. Please put it on please!

  • Cheese

I’m not getting it because it doesn’t have skirmish mode for apple!

  • Rickyman

I would pay $50 if it had skirmish and multiplayer mode for apple. But because it doesn’t i’m not buying it!

  • Chuckdude

For apple if they put skirmish/multiplayer modes i would get it the game! But because they don’t u guys just lost $50, i’m not getting it!!!!!!

  • Bartin65

The campaign looks fun but i’m not getting the game until they add skirmish/multiplayer modes.

  • CharlieD

my friends and I were talking about getting company of heroes, it looks like fun!

But we decided not to get the game until they add multiplayer and skirmish mode to the game.

  • Aman123

Did they just get lazy and not add skirmish and multiplayer or something!

Can you guys tell me why you didn’t?

  • ChumChum736

It was nice of aspyr to add the game to apple products but i’m not getting the game because it lacks the multiplayer and skirmish modes for macs.

It’s too bad, the game looks like fun!

  • MikeC77

Company of Heroes looks like a really fun game!

But I agree with everybody else, i’m not getting the game until they add the skirmish modes.

  • Hac76

It is a great game but the campaign gets boring after a while.  By not investing in Skirmish mode you have made in not worth purchasing.  Cheers.

I have to agree. I have the PC version and Skirmish and Multi-player are all I do on it. I’l love to play on my Macbook Pro, but I won’t buy it without skirmish and Multi-player. Too bad really.

  • Daniel V

Look… it’s a great game. We purchased it for the PC a long time ago. And I would buy it for my Mac. But $50 is too much for a 6-year-old game without multiplayer or (more importantly IMHO) SKIRMISH modes. It’s fantastic, but at that price and that age, it needs to be the best game in the world. Judging by the other comments on here, you could get a lot more sales by adding Skirmish mode.
What exactly is the problem? I can see your answer in the FAQ above, but would it be possible to implement just Skirmish? Is it possible to get a nonfunctional version of multiplayer in there that would also allow you to put in skirmish? This game is crippled as is and I will not pay that much money for what is really an incomplete game.

how long is a typical download from the App Store

    • http://blog.gameagent.com/ Russ Looney

It’s entirely dependent on your internet connection. It takes a couple of hours at the Aspyr offices with a higher-end connection.

  • pasly

These guys are fuckwits. DONT download it cos theres no skirmish. As IF u wouldnt put skirmish in. Dumb fuckwits

  • More games for mac please

Jeez, please add skirmish. This is truly frustrating for an otherwise wonderful game that I would just blindly buy to not have skirmish, thus refraining me from buying it.
