CFB Game of the Week: Championship Results

College Football Game of the Week

It’s official:  The Auburn Tigers are your new BCS Champions!

The Tigers kicked a game-winning field goal in the final seconds to beat the Oregon Ducks 22-19.  In a game that many expected to be a high-scoring affair, it was the defenses that really stole the show.  Both offenses struggled through much of the game because of high-level play from each team’s defense.  However, it was the Auburn running game that eventually wore down the Oregon defense to help cement the victory.

In particular, there was one play that put the Tigers in position to win the game.  The Ducks had tied the game at 19-19 with around 2 minutes to play, but the Tigers were not ready to give up the game to overtime.  On the play in question, Auburn freshman running back Michael Dyer took the ball and scooted around to the right side of the field before being brought down by an Oregon defender–or so it seemed.  The whistle never blew, so Dyer got up and kept running before eventually being brought down again deep in Oregon territory.  While Dyer had indeed been brought down, his knee never hit the turf; instead, he simply rolled on top of his would-be tackler before getting back up to make the championship-winning run.  That run lead to the game-winning field goal.

With that victory, there is much celebration by Auburn fans everywhere.  But that doesn’t mean they alone get any benefit!  Because the Tigers won, we’re launching our final CFB Game of the Week promotion of the season, and as previously discussed, it’s a big one!

Starting now and running through the end of the day (11:59pm CST) Thursday, January 13, you’ll be able to grab Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Mac) as well as our Call of Duty Bundle (Mac) (includes CoD4: Modern Warfare, CoD Deluxe, and CoD 2) at a championship-caliber 40% off!  Plus, you’ll get FREE domestic shipping on the boxed bundle!  Just add any of the titles to your cart and use the coupon code #TigersWin (including the hashtag!).  Grab these discounts now–you won’t see any more CFB GotW discounts until next season!

CFB Game of the Week: Championship Edition

Posted by Russ Looney

College Football Game of the Week feature banner

Well, it’s all come down to this.  For college football fans, it’s almost undoubtedly been a rollercoaster ride of a season.  From perennial powers seeing subpar seasons (Texas, you broke our hearts) to surprise bowl game wins (both Stanford and TCU taking it to their opponents in BCS matchups!), from preseason conference realignment mania (the Big 10 now has 12 teams, the Big XII now has 10) to midseason scandals (looking at you, Cam Newton).  All in all, it’s been one entertaining season of college football.

It all culminates Monday night with the BCS Championship Game between the #1 Auburn Tigers and the #2 Oregon Ducks.  Two explosive offenses that have pretty much steamrolled anyone that stood in their way this season.  Both teams have had a lot of time off to focus on the championship game, and both will undoubtedly bring everything they’ve got to get a win on Monday night.  It should be a highly entertaining game; a shootout of epic proportions, if you will.  But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s remember what’s really at stake here: discounts on video games.

The Discounts

We’re going back to the game discounts that started it all–Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Mac) and Civilization IV (Mac).  However, this is the grand finale, so of course we’ve got to kick it up a notch!  Not only are these individual titles up for grabs, but we’re also including the Call of Duty and Civilization IV bundles we’ve created, all at MASSIVE discounts!

The Football Game

Is it any surprise?  The featured matchup is the BCS National Championship Game!  Everything’s on the line in what could be one of the most entertaining and hard-fought games of the season.

  • If the Auburn Tigers win, you’ll get the Call of Duty promo.  The discount will go active Tuesday morning and run through the end of the day (11:59pm CST) Thursday!
  • If the Oregon Ducks win, you’ll get the Civilization IV promo.  Similarly, the discount will go active Tuesday morning and run through the end of the day (11:59pm CST) Thursday!

The game is set to kick off at 8:30pm EST on ESPN/ESPN3.  Catch a full preview here.  Who are you rooting for?

Still new to the feature?  Each week we will feature a marquee match-up between two college football teams.  Each team will represent a specific game or set of games available at GameAgent.com and an associated discount for those games.  The game discount(s) associated with the winning team will then go into effect the following Monday or Tuesday after the game and last for 3 days.  In order to get the discounts, you must use the specific coupon code that is generated once the winner is decided!  Finally, commenting on the blog or our Facebook page about the marque match-up, your favorite team, or football in general is highly encouraged–participants may get special benefits!

CFB Game of the Week: Week 12 Results

Posted by Russ Looney
College Football Game of the Week banner Despite the fact that the top 3 teams were all off this week, the college football weekend still saw some great matchups and hard-fought games.  The Texas A&M Aggies were able to defeat the higer-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers in a strong defensive battle.  Ohio State was able to survive its trip to Iowa.  And the Arkansas Razorbacks were able to finish off Mississippi State. Of course, the important matchup was between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Miami Hurricanes.  Despite a close game through the first 3 quarters, the Hokies were able to pull away in the final quarter, winning 31-17.  Virginia Tech’s star QB Tyrod Taylor sealed the game with an 18-yard touchdown run in the middle of the fourth quarter, while the Hurricanes were forced to play with back up QB Stephen Morris.  Morris was intercepted three times in the game.  The win gave the Hokies the top spot in the Coastal Division of the ACC, and they’ll play for the conference championship in a couple of weeks. The win is also giving GameAgent fans a special something–discounts on all of our Sims titles!  Between now and the end of the day (11:59pm CST) Wednesday, November 24, you can grab any title labeled The Sims (this does not include The Sims 2) for 25% off with coupon code #VTech.  In addition, each title you add to your cart will cut shipping costs by $5, meaning that 2 or more will get you FREE shipping!  Don’t miss out! *The Sims catalog includes:

CFB Game of the Week: Sims vs Sims

Posted by Russ Looney
College Football Game of the Week banner And just like that, the season is one week closer to ending.  With only two games left on the regular season schedule for most teams, this season has seen its share of highs and lows.  Some teams have surprised and marveled (Auburn, pre-Cam Newton controversy), while others have floundered in spite of themselves (Texas).  But the saddest part?  This is the last CFB Game of the Week we’ll be posting until the bowl season starts!  Read on to find out what discounts are at stake and what teams you should keep an eye on.

The Discounts

We’re going Sims-style this week, featuring our entire Sims (Mac) catalog* vs our entire Sims 2 (Mac) catalog*.  Both games feature tons of replayability, and with the extensions and expansions, these games will definitely keep you busy through the holidays (or at the least, provide a fun and inexpensive gift)!
  • If the team representing The Sims catalog wins, then all of our games pertaining to The Sims will be 25% off.  Furthermore, each Sims title you buy will cut your shipping costs by $5–that means buying two or more Sims titles will net you FREE shipping!
  • If the team representing The Sims 2 catalog wins, then all of our games pertaining to The Sims 2 will be 25% off.  Furthermore, each Sims 2 title you buy will cut your shipping costs by $5–that means buying two or more Sims 2 titles will net you FREE shipping!

The Football Game

This week we’re featuring the matchup between the #16 Virginia Tech Hokies and the #24 Miami Hurricanes.  The Hokies have come on strong in the second half of the season, winning eight in a row after losing their first two.  However, the Hokies will have their hands full when they travel to Miami, as the Hurricanes are on a bit of streak themselves having won their last two games.
  • If the Virginia Tech Hokies win, then the Sims deal will kick into effect Monday, November 22.
  • If the Miami Hurricanes win, then the Sims 2 deal will kick into effect Monday, November 22.
The game is set to kick off at 3:30pm ET on ESPN/ESPN3.  You can catch a full preview here. (more…)

CFB Game of the Week: Week 11 Results

Posted by Russ Looney

College Football Game of the Week banner

Things remained steady in the top 10 this week, as there were no upsets to shake the balance of power.  There were some close calls, however, as #1 Oregon barely skated by California, #2 Auburn struggled early with Georgia, and #3 TCU almost dropped the ball against San Diego State.  The question, of course, is how did our featured CFB Game of the Week turn out?

In a battle that initially looked like it would be close, the South Carolina Gamecocks emerged victorious over the Florida Gators, 36-14.  The Gators jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but the Gamecocks soon came back with RB Marcus Lattimore running in for a touchdown late in the first quarter to go up 9-7; it was a lead that South Carolina would not relinquish.  Lattimore would end up running for a career-high 212 yards as the Gamecocks handled the Gators at their home turf of Gainesville for the first time in 13 tries.  South Carolina will play in the SEC Champsionship game as winners of the East Division.  Catch a full recap here.

Civilization IV: Warlords Mac boxshotSince the Gamecocks won, we’re discounting Civilization IV: Warlords (Mac) through Wednesday, November 17.  You’ll be able to buy the Civ IV expansion, shipping included, for only $12!  Just add the game to your cart and use the coupon code #Gamecocks at checkout!

The Discounts

We’re returning to the good ole’ standby, Civilization Mac!  We’re featuring two of the Civilization IV expansions this week: Civilization IV: Warlords (Mac) and Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (Mac).  Both expansions add tons of great additions to the classic Civilization IV and will be fantastic appetizers to enjoy as the Civilization V release date approaches!

  • Likewise, if the team representing Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword wins, then you’ll be able to grab the expansion, shipping included, for only $12!

The Football Game

This week we’re taking another look at the SEC and the matchup between the #23 South Carolina Gamecocks and the #22 Florida Gators.  The SEC East division title will be on the line when these two teams meet at The Swamp.  The Gamecocks started the season off strong, but have struggled a bit lately and are coming off a 21-point loss to Arkansas last week.  On the other side of the ball, Florida struggled mightily to start the season, going on to lose 3 games in a row, but have rebounded lately to win their last two.  It will be a tough matchup as the winner will be in the driver’s seat to reach to the SEC title game!

  • If the South Carolina Gamecocks win, then the Warlords deal will kick into effect Monday morning.
  • If the Florida Gators win, then the Beyond the Sword deal will kick into effect Monday morning.

The game is set to kick off at 7:15pm ET on ESPN/ESPN3.  Catch a full preview here.

CFB Game of the Week: Week 10 Results

Posted by Russ Looney
College Football Game of the Week banner Another week of college football means another week of upsets!  There was a bit of chaos in the top 10 this week, as LSU shut down Alabama and the Texas A&M Aggies surprised the Oklahoma Sooners.  In our CFB Game of the Week, however, there was an upset, but not because the favored team lost… The higher-ranked TCU Horned Frogs absolutely crushed the Utah Utes at home, 47-7.  TCU scored 2o points in the first quarter, all but assuring their victory over the Utes from the get-go.  With this resounding victory, the Horned Frogs have made the statement that they’re ready to play for the national championship, and all that stands in their way is an undefeated duo of the Oregon Ducks and the Auburn Tigers. Homeworld 2 Mac boxshotSince the TCU Horned Frogs won, we’re discounting Homeworld 2 (Mac) through Wednesday, November 10.  You’ll be able to grab the title for only $15, shipping included!  Just add the game to your cart and use the coupon code #Frogs at checkout.  Act fast before the deal expires!

  • If the TCU Horned Frogs win, then the Homeworld 2 deal will kick into effect Monday morning.

CFB Game of the Week: Week 9 Results

Posted by Russ Looney
College Football Game of the Week banner Another weekend in college football, another weekend of upsets.  Two unbeaten teams lost Saturday, including the one featured in our CFB Game of the Week matchup!  Nebraska took Missouri to school behind the record-setting performance of RB Roy Helu Jr who scored 3 touchdowns of 60+ yards. In our own featured matchup, it was Iowa who decimated the then unbeaten Michigan State Spartans, 37-6.  Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi threw for 3 touchdowns in the win, while Spartan QB Kirk Cousins threw three interceptions.  The Michigan State loss narrowed down the BCS title race even further with Oregon and Auburn currently at the top of the standings.  The final weeks of the season will be great to watch as the teams at the top do everything they can to hold on. Outside of those other teams, though, we’ve got some discounts to announce!  From now through the end of the day Wednesday, November 3, ALL boxed games at GameAgent.com (that are not currently discounted) will receive FREE shipping when you use the coupon code #Iowa!  Enjoy the free shipping, at tune in later this week for the next CFB Game of the Week installment!

CFB Game of the Week: Buyer’s Choice

Posted by Russ Looney
College Football Game of the Week banner Boo!  It’s Halloween weekend, and that means SCARY times for college football teams!  What’s come to be known as “Anarchy Saturday” in some circles, Halloween weekend has traditionally seen some of the greatest upsets in recent college football history.  Teams at risk this week?  #2 Oregon travels to traditional powerhouse USC to defend their current BCS ranking.  #6 Missouri travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face a Cornhusker bunch that is anxious to prove they still belong at the top of the Big XII and national standings.  And #13 Stanford travels to Washington to face a Husky team that’s ready to go behind star QB Jake Locker.  You know the drill, though–only one matchup can take the coveted spot of the CFB Game of the Week!

The Discounts

Admittedly, we’re at a wall right now.  With a super-fantastic strategy promo going on right now (ALL strategy titles 40% off!), a Force Unleashed promo going on right now (get The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, Mac or PC, 35% off with coupon #TFU2), AND a Halloween special going on (Doom 3 Mac, QUAKE 4 Mac, Necrovision PC, and Cryostasis PC 40% off each), we just couldn’t decide on any two sets of games to pit against one another this week.  So we’re doing the next best thing leaving the game choosing to you! • If the team representing our digital games wins, then all of our digital games (not currently on sale) will be discounted by 15%!
  • If the team representing our boxed games wins, then all of our boxed games (not currently on sale) will be eligible for FREE shipping!

The Football Game

We’re taking it back to the Big 10 (11) this week with the matchup between the #5 Michigan State Spartans and the #18 Iowa Hawkeyes!  Michigan State has been on a roll this season, going undefeated through 8 games.  But the Hawkeyes are no slouch and are looking to keep alive a home win streak against the Spartans that goes back to 1989!  Will the Spartans overcome this hurdle and win at Iowa to have the inside track to the Big 10 title?  We’ll find out Saturday!
  • If the Michigan State Spartans win, then the digital games deal will kick into effect Monday morning.
  • If the Iowa Hawkeyes win, then the boxed games deal will kick into effect Monday morning.
